Founded in 1984, Camp Sunshine provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness.

Camp Sunshine is the only program in the nation offered year-round with the distinction of having been designed to serve the entire family in a retreat model. The program is free of charge to families and includes on-site medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement sessions are also offered for families who have experienced the death of a child from a supported illness.

Introducing the Camp Sunshine "Polar Pool School Challenge" Since 2010, the Polar Pool has been a symbol of the Freezin' for a Reason efforts in Massachusetts. Set up annually at the base lodge at Wachusett Mountain, filled (never filtered) from the icy depths of their snowmaking pond... it is a plunge like no other!

Let the shenanigans begin! This year's Wachusett Polar Dip will take place on St. Patrick's Day! To celebrate, we are reaching out to all of the school groups that volunteer to see which school will take home the title of the Greatest Polar School! Camp Sunshine is honored to partner with Massachusetts schools and communities who understand the importance of our mission and the impact it has on the families we serve.

Each year, hundreds of students and faculty members return to volunteer, help organize events, and most importantly create awareness for our program. This is your opportunity to see how you stack up against other Massachusetts schools. It's going to feel like one lucky day for the top schools as trophies will be awarded for the largest team, highest fundraising team and best team costumes. The challenge aside, it's going to be a great day to hang out with other volunteers and Camp families from Massachusetts and of course, it's all for a great cause!

The trophies (along with bragging rights) will be brought back to your school and displayed until next year's challenge, So form a team, dress to impress and tell your friends the leprechauns made you do it!
