Singhas Polar Plunge for MACKENZIE!
As many of you know, my 9 yr. old daughter has had Diamond Blackfan Anemia since birth, which requires at this stage of life to get monthly blood tranfusions and constant monitoring of her blood counts and iron levels. This rare illness gets little to no attention and funding from govt. or public sources...and relies heavily on the DBA families for funding research and efforts to make life easier to deal with. As part of my families support of our daughter and the DBA Foundation, we have come to appreciate places like Camp Sunshine who have hosted my family on two occasions. At Camp Sunshine, my wife and I get to hear from, and get alot of one on one time with the doctors and researchers who are at the forefront of the effort to understand DBA and get updates on the latest and greatest research and treatment options. All the while, our children get to go boating, swimming, putt putt golfing, and pretty much have the time of our lives. Through out the year (and at no cost), Camp Sunshine host a huge number of families who have children with life threatening illness...from the well known...to the rarer diseases like DBA. We have come to greatly appreciate a place like this.....and really did not realize its existence.....until we found ourselves going down this road.
So with that said, I'm taking the plunge AGAIN (4th times a charm) for Camp Sunshine! Please help me by either making a donation (no donation is too small) OR signing up to PLUNGE with me! I’m sure it will be a WARM day in the middle of winter. All funds raised will help send children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to Camp Sunshine. AND for those of you who have seen this on TV.....the VA. Polar Plunge is not the "run into the nearest ocean or lake up to your knees and spash around".....WE jump off a dock into 8' of water cut out of the surrounding ice sheet, then swim 10' - 14' to a ladder and climb out.....no sissy stuff here!
