Dawn Kalmar's Fundraising Page
I was introduced to Camp Sunshine and the Bravehearts Ride & Family Day by a former colleague, now friend, Pat Connelly. Pat lost his son Dylan to brain cancer. I remember meeting Pat not long after that and expecting to see someone who was sad and defeated. Hardly. While the hole would never be filled, Pat took his pain and made it into something. He has a gift for that. There is a fire inside of Pat that is infectious. He is a man of many talents and much wisdom and has a knack for inspiring people around him to come together around a common goal, even one that seems crazy. I always walk away from a conversation with Pat feeling inspired to do more, to be better and to give back.
100% of your donation goes to Camp Sunshine, a year-round camp in Casco, Maine that provides support and a week-long respite for children with a life-threatening illness and their family. I have spent the last 12 years working for companies that are developing medicines for rare pediatric diseases that have no cure. My time at Vertex working on cystic fibrosis and now at Stoke working on Dravet syndrome has taught me about the impacts of severe, life threatening diseases on children and their entire families, especially their siblings and parents. The bravery and strength I see in these families is awe inspiring. Camp Sunshine provides much needed support and respite for these families. It also gives families a deserved opportunity to have fun.
It took 10 years, but Kurt and I have finally signed on to join the Bravehearts. We are honored to be participating and hope that we can make some small difference for Camp Sunshine and their campers.
